Staycation Ideas: 8 Things to Do in Cache Valley, Utah
If you’re looking for a fun and fulfilling staycation without the hassle of long drives or expensive flights, Cache Valley, Utah has you covered. My family and I live in Cache Valley, and can attest that this scenic and culturally rich area is packed with opportunities to explore, learn, and unwind. It is perfect for all ages, including your youngest explorer, your well-achieved grandparent, and anyone in between. Here are eight awesome ideas to make the most of your staycation.
1. Explore Hiking & Nature Trails

Cache Valley offers some of the best hiking experiences in Northern Utah, with trails catering to all skill levels. The Wind Cave Trail is a must-see, a moderate 4-mile round-trip journey that rewards hikers with unique limestone formations and sweeping views of Logan Canyon. This hike is a family favorite. I grew up going on the hike. I now love that I can take my kids on it. For a more challenging adventure, try the Crimson Trail. Its steeper climb is worth it for the panoramic vistas over the canyon, especially during the fall when vibrant autumn colors paint the landscape. These colors in the fall are breathtaking and very picturesque. You will want to have your camera for these hikes.
One of my family’s favorite hikes is also Providence Canyon Trail. It is listed as a 6 mile hike, but our family will typically hike for 45-60 minutes, or until we encounter the road again, and then turn around and come back down. This hike is incredibly beautiful in the fall and one of my favorite places for some beautiful pictures!
For a more relaxed experience, stroll along the Riverside Nature Trail. This family-friendly path follows the Logan River and offers beautiful, tranquil views, perfect for a morning walk or picnic.
2. Visit the American West Heritage Center

Step back in time at the American West Heritage Center, a living history museum that brings Cache Valley’s pioneer past to life. Located just outside Logan in Wellsville, the center offers interactive activities for all ages. You can participate in hands-on farm chores, explore replica pioneer settlements, and even visit a buffalo herd. They also have a blacksmith that is showing their skill. The pioneer workers also showed the children what games they played and how they made dolls out of corn husks. Seasonal events like the Fall Festival and Baby Animal Days make this an ever-changing experience worth revisiting. During these seasonal events, you can ride on the train or take a pony ride.
3. Cache Valley Fun Park

Rain or shine, Cache Valley Fun Park has something for everyone. With bowling lanes, laser tag, roller skating, arcade games, and even an indoor playground, it’s the perfect place to let loose and have fun. Families, teens, and even adults looking for a casual outing will find something to enjoy. Plus, the Fun Park’s variety of activities ensures everyone in your group can find their niche.
4. Bear Lake Day Trip

Just a short drive from Cache Valley, Bear Lake is a picturesque paradise known for its turquoise waters and sandy beaches. Whether you want to swim, paddleboard, or simply relax on the shore, Bear Lake is the perfect spot for a day of relaxation and fun. Don’t forget your sunscreen; this is a must! Make sure you take sand toys for your little ones. The sand is perfect for making sand castles. Don’t leave without grabbing a famous Bear Lake raspberry shake from one of the local shops in Garden City. If you’re visiting during the summer, renting a jet ski or kayak is also a fantastic way to explore the lake.
There are also some other fun activities to do, such as renting a bike and riding on the bike trails or going go-carting. Make sure you take the time to visit the few shops for some souvenirs.
5. Explore Downtown Logan

Downtown Logan offers a charming blend of small-town appeal and vibrant local culture. Stroll along Main Street and pop into the variety of shops, art galleries, and cafes. Coffee lovers will appreciate the cozy ambiance and quality brews at Caffe Ibis. Whether you’re hunting for unique gifts, enjoying the local art scene, or savoring delicious food, downtown Logan delivers.
6. Attend a Performance at the Ellen Eccles Theatre

For a touch of culture, spend an evening at the Ellen Eccles Theatre. This beautifully restored historic venue regularly hosts musicals, plays, concerts, and other live performances. Built in 1923, the theater’s intricate design and vintage charm make it an attraction in itself. Make sure you check their calendar. There are shows for all age groups. Before or after your show, consider dining at The Elements Restaurant nearby for a memorable date night.
7. Visit Logan Tabernacle

A visit to Logan wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the Logan Tabernacle. Built in the late 19th century, this impressive structure boasts stunning architecture and rich historical significance. Free guided tours are available, and the Tabernacle often hosts concerts, recitals, and other community events. Whether you’re interested in history or simply appreciating beautiful buildings, it’s worth a visit. And it was just newly renovated.
8. Enjoy the Local Food Scene

Cache Valley’s food scene is a hidden gem that continues to grow and impress. Breakfast at Herm’s Inn is a local tradition, where you can indulge in dishes like Stuffed French Toast or Biscuits & Gravy. For lunch, Jack’s Wood-Fired Oven delivers mouth-watering pizzas with fresh, creative toppings. Dinner options range from the upscale Italian fare at Le Nonne to American classics paired with house-made root beer at The Beehive Pub & Grill. If you love Indian food, one of the best places around is Tandoori Oven. End your day by grabbing something sweet from one of Logan’s charming dessert spots. If you visit in the summer, you must visit Karie Anne’s food truck for some delicious frozen desserts.
Cache Valley offers a wealth of experiences for locals looking to rediscover their hometown or visitors eager to explore Northern Utah’s beauty and charm. With so much to see and do, your staycation will be anything but boring. So pack a bag, grab your camera, and get ready to make some fantastic local memories.
